Description

3rd Yonkou I've drawn. The Last Yonkou will be Shanks. I planned to finish Shanks last year, but not everything goes according to plan, is it? lol
You can see I draw Teach with his currently appearance. Especially his new beard style and hat (with jolly roger on it). We don't see his full appearance yet, so I used his old outfit instead.

I can't wait to see Teach again. Maybe with some new devil fruits he stole from everyone else? lol.

You can see my others Yonkou drawing here. I want to stick with this new drawing style of mine from now.

You have been visited by a Critmas Fairy! We fairies are trying to show the world we can give critique to others without being downright criticising, as per the spirit of CRITmas (fav.me/daqfq97). Mind if I just hop on to business, then?

First things first: congratulations on the exciting character portrait! His pose is lively and full of personality, and I like his hand gestures a lot as well.

What I do think could take the piece (or your next piece, in case you don't want to touch this one anymore) to the next level is the following:
try not to shade with black or grey. It has as a side effect that the character's colours look bland and greyed.
There are a LOT of resources on shading and colours of shadow, and one you'll hear a lot is that if your light source is warm, your shadows should be cool. That's not technically true but it DOES make for a more interesting palette, so as a quick-and-dirty rule it certainly is something that has merit.
If you like accuracy, you could consider the following:
Light, to us, looks like the colour that it does because all the other wavelengths get absorbed by the material it shines on. The rebouncing colours reach our retinas making us perceive those remaining wavelengths as a certain colour. The colour of a shadow, say, in a fold of his clothes (where direct light won't reach) will often be the colours of a material that is close enough to it to bounce some indirect light into that area. That is why folds of skin look warm (because of the surrounding skin colour) and folds of a yellow sash for example will look a deep yellow. The shadow on his bottom might be the colour of the floor, reflecting some of its light upwards.

If you consider these things when rendering, you'll really see your piece come to life - I promise!

Oh I also forgot to mention how I like you suggesting the curve of his belly and chest with those thing lines like that. That's rather clever!

Best of luck with it and I hope 2017 will see you draw much much more pieces like this, with such engaging and exciting characters.
Love,
